Screen Printing vs Heat Transfer vs Embroidery for Bags

Compare three common bag logo methods by artwork, fabric, colour, texture, placement and sampling considerations.

The logo method should be selected after the bag material and placement are known. A process that looks good on flat cotton canvas may behave differently on coated polyester, mesh or a padded panel.

Screen printing

Screen printing pushes ink through a prepared screen onto the material. It is commonly considered for clear shapes and controlled spot colours. Artwork separation, ink coverage, fabric texture and the number of colours affect preparation. Fine lines should be reviewed on the actual fabric.

Heat transfer

Heat transfer applies a prepared graphic with heat and pressure. It can support detailed or multicolour artwork, but the fabric and coating must tolerate the process. Panel shape and seams can limit placement, so transfers are often applied before the bag is fully assembled.

Embroidery

Embroidery creates a raised textile finish with thread. It can suit brand marks that benefit from texture, but dense stitching adds weight and can pull or distort lighter fabric. A backing or reinforcement may be needed. Stitch count, thread colour and minimum detail size affect the result.

  • Is the panel flat and accessible before assembly?
  • Is the fabric coated, stretchy, textured or heat-sensitive?
  • How many colours and fine details are in the artwork?
  • Should the finish be flat, raised, matte or glossy?
  • Does the logo cross a pocket, seam or padded area?

Approve artwork size, location, colour reference and a representative application. Keep the approved file and placement measurement with repeat-order records.
