Zippers
Record the zipper type, size direction, tape colour, teeth or coil colour, slider quantity, puller style and opening length. Consider whether the opening follows a curve and whether a fabric flap is intended to shield the zipper. End treatment affects both appearance and assembly.
Buckles and adjusters
Side-release buckles, ladder locks, triglides and cord locks each serve different functions. Match the component slot to the selected webbing width and thickness. The specification should also state material, colour, finish and whether left/right orientation matters.
Webbing
Define fibre direction where known, width, thickness or reference quality, colour and intended load. A soft webbing may suit a lightweight handle but slip in an adjuster designed for a firmer strap. Edge feel and colour consistency can also matter for exposed handles.
Hooks, rings and metal parts
Swivel hooks, D-rings, O-rings, rivets and snaps should be identified by dimensions, material and finish. Plated finishes can look different under changing light, so physical samples or controlled colour references are useful.
Attachment is part of the component system
A strong buckle does not compensate for an attachment sewn to an unsuitable panel. Note reinforcement patches, stitch patterns and load direction at handle and strap anchors.
